Last night I had the pleasure of meeting fellow mom and blogger Andy Shipley. About a year ago her and her husband fulfilled their dream and adopted their baby girl at just 3 months old but 6 weeks later they learned that baby Dru had a life threatening disease that would change their lives.
Biliary atresia I learned was a condition that affected the digestive system and could cause lifetime damage to the liver or worse. A disease that happens to 1 in 10 babies. Dru herself had been placed on a waiting list for a liver at just a year old.
Despite this families heartache and the challenges they now knew they would face they "made the conscious decision to always look at the bright side". They still had each other and they still had a beautiful miracle they wouldn't trade for the world.
Andy has started her own blog where they have dubbed Dru " Little Miss Magic and another site http://www.onthebrightsideapparel.com dedicated to selling clothing to raise awareness and money for Dru's cause. Sweatshirts, tees and one pieces for babies all with great sayings, even a little Bob Marly flare which I loved. Be sure to check out her site and blog because this family can truly see the brighter side.
